This project consisted of a comprehensive upgrade of the Hybrid OR on the third-floor operating rooms suites of the VA PHS University Drive Medical Center, including select demolition, structural steel redesign to support Stryker equipment booms, electrical service upgrades, mechanical upgrades, and flooring and painting refurbishment. The project presented several technical challenges, including incomplete drawings regarding the location, design and specifications of the new structural steel support upgrades. In order to avoid massive disruption of lower floor hospital operations, RBCG and its structural steel supplier, Maccabee Steel, re-designed the structural steel support members to provide the required structural support upgrades, which minimized disruption to the Project schedule. Throughout the project, our Project Manager and Superintendent exercised efficient and effective management and communication protocols with all parties so that work was completed professionally, competently and safely. All work was performed in the midst of the hospital’s operating room suites, so infection control and ICRA protocol requirements were significant and strict compliance was maintained at all times.
